Update: 10/28/2014:

There are a few updates concerning new Ting phones coming available in the past few weeks.

First, Ting has announced that the HTC Desire 510 will be available to purchase and ship by November 12th. The HTC Desire 510 is a nice well designed capable smartphone that comes in at a low cost of only $155, which is comparable to that of a Motorola Moto G. The phone is essentially an HTC One but without the extra frills.

Second, Ting has made an update regarding the Nexus 6 availability. They are speculating that since Google Play will have Nexus 6 available by the end of October for pr-eorder sales, then that means that we won’t see the Nexus 6 available on the Ting network no earlier than the end of November 2014. Regardless, the price is quoted at $650 which is a bit much for a “Frugal Caller” but it does seem like a pretty sweet phone.

Finally, I still have not seen or heard anything about the Moto E coming online for Ting which is unusual since they quoted mid-October as the release date. In addition, Republic Wireless now has the Moto E available and they’re usually behind on getting new phones, so I suppose we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

Update: 09/16/2014:

In a blog announcement today, Ting has said that they will be supporting the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c starting on September 29th. These two new Ting phones are the latest to join the other supported Apple products on the service which already includes the iPhone 4, 4s, 5 and the iPad.

However, you cannot buy these from Ting since the support is for BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) thus you’d have to buy a supported phone from an online market like Glyde, Swappa, or eBay. In addition, it is important to note that the phone also needs to be compatible with the Sprint network in order for it to work.

Currently on Glyde, the iPhone 5c is going for $299 and the iPhone 5s is going for $399, to give you an idea of the prices.

Unfortunately, MVNOs like Ting don’t have the luxury of getting access to the latest Apple products like the new iPhone 6 that the big carriers do, so that puts them at a disadvantage. Although, as I’ve said before, if you’re the type of person who needs the latest greatest (and expensive) phones all the time then you’re probably not compatible with a cheap cell phone plan like Ting anyways. Regardless, you could probably expect to see iPhone 6 devices being offered on the service approximately 6 months from now, as is usually the case for new release devices.

Update: 08/19/2014:

Today Ting announced in a blog post that they have some new phones for 2014 that will become available for use on the Ting network in the next few months. In the post they outline four new exciting phones which should help to make Ting even more competitive in the cheap cell phone plans marketplace.

The biggest news I think is the announcement of the upcoming Moto E phone available by mid October, although their blog claims that it could be even sooner than that. Ting says that they will offer the Moto E at around $130 once they can get a CDMA version of the phone to use on the network.

If the Moto E is anything like the Moto G which I currently use with Republic Wireless then it should be an amazing smart phone for the extremely low price it is being offered at. It’s interesting too that Ting beat Republic to the punch on offering the Moto E since the phone has long been speculated to be next on the Republic Wireless new phones list.

In addition to the Moto E, Ting also says they will be making available the LG V3 Vigor and the Nokia Lumia 635 in September 2014 and November 2014 respectively. Both phones are decent smart phones with prices yet to be deteremined.

The LG G3 Vigor is simply a pared down version of the LG G3 which currently retails for $580 (no contract) at AT&T so we should expect the Vigor to be less than that.

The Nokia Lumia 635 is an interesting new phone for Ting since it will be the first Windows based OS phone available with the service. The Lumia 635’s price is still to be determined but it currently retails for $168 (no contract) at T-Mobile and have seen it offered for as low as $99 so the price seems up in the air but knowing Ting they’ll likely offer it at the lower end.

Finally, Ting has said that they plan to support and make available the next Nexus which hasn’t even been released by Google yet but it is assumed to be called the Nexus 6. The price and release date is also quite speculative but Ting believes they’ll have support for it by mid November. If the Nexus 5 price on the Google Play store is any indicator of the Nexus 6 cost I think we could say it’ll be around $400 give or take.
